Survey sites that actually pay (and how to not waste your time)
Some links below are referral links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a bonus at no cost to you. How we make money
Paid surveys are real, but they're also the most frustrating way to earn on our list. You'll get screened out a lot, and the pay per minute varies wildly. The trick is picking sites that respect your time and knowing when to bail on a survey.
Start here: Prolific
If you only join one, make it Prolific. It's built for academic researchers, so studies tell you the pay and estimated time before you start, and screening happens up front instead of ten minutes in. It's consistently one of the most-recommended options in the r/beermoney community. Payouts go to PayPal. The catch: studies come in waves and get claimed fast, so keep a tab open.
Zero effort: Google Opinion Rewards
Google sends you a one-question survey every so often, usually about a store you visited. It pays cents, but each one takes ten seconds. Android users can cash out to PayPal, while iPhone users get Apple balance. There's no referral program; we list it because it's good.
The big all-rounders
- Swagbucks: one of the oldest. Surveys plus cashback, games, and daily goals, with a $3 minimum cash-out to PayPal or gift cards.
- Branded Surveys: daily streak bonuses and loyalty tiers that bump your rate the longer you stay active.
- Survey Junkie: simple points system and a low cash-out threshold.
- AttaPoll: phone-first, good for filling a few minutes in line.
Why you keep getting disqualified
It's not you. Companies paying for surveys want specific people, like "parents in Ohio who bought a car this year," and the screener's job is to filter everyone else out. A few things help:
- Fill out your profile questions completely. Sites use them to send you surveys you'll actually qualify for.
- Answer honestly and consistently. Surveys include attention checks and catch contradictions. Getting flagged can get your account closed.
- Favor sites that show pay and length first. Skip anything paying less than about 10 cents a minute.
Stay safe
- Never pay to join a survey site. Legit ones are always free.
- Be wary of anything promising $50 for a 10-minute survey. That's not how this market works.
- Use a separate email for sign-ups to keep your main inbox clean.
Realistic earnings
Casual survey-taking typically lands somewhere around a few dollars to the low tens of dollars a month. If you want bigger payouts for your time, paid research studies and user testing pay far more per hour. See Paid tasks & testing in the main list.
