The best receipt scanning apps that actually pay

Some links below are referral links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a bonus at no cost to you. How we make money

You're buying groceries, gas, and household stuff anyway. These apps pay you a little for proof that you did. None of them will change your life, but together they're the lowest-effort money on our whole list.

The quick picks

Fetch: points for any receipt

Fetch pays points for receipts from grocery stores, supermarkets, warehouse clubs, convenience stores, pet stores, and home improvement stores, no matter what you bought. You get extra points for specific brands. Receipts have to be less than two weeks old, and you can connect your email so e-receipts come in on their own. Points turn into gift cards starting at around $3.

Good for: people who want zero thinking. Snap, done.

Ibotta: cash back on specific products

Ibotta works off offers: a dollar off this brand of yogurt, fifty cents on that cereal. You can link store loyalty cards at supported retailers or scan receipts. Always look for the "any item" or "any brand" offers, which pay on basically everything. Ibotta also runs bonus challenges for redeeming a certain number of offers. Cash-out starts at $20, via PayPal, Venmo, or gift cards.

Good for: bigger, planned grocery trips where you can check offers first.

Brandclub: rewards for brand loyalty

Brandclub is different. You link your accounts at stores like Amazon, Walmart, and Target, and it rewards you for buying brands you already like. Rewards start "locked" and unlock the next time you buy from that brand. Payouts are higher than most apps, but you have to verify your ID to cash out, and the minimum is $10 via PayPal or Venmo.

Good for: people who mostly shop online at big retailers and stick to the same brands.

Upside: gas and restaurants

Upside isn't a receipt scanner, but it belongs in the same "money for stuff you buy anyway" bucket. Add your card, claim an offer at a nearby gas station or restaurant, then pay with that card. It pays a set amount per gallon regardless of what you spend at the pump. Cash out to PayPal, bank, or gift cards.

Good for: anyone who drives regularly.

Can you stack them?

Usually, yes. Plenty of people scan the same grocery receipt in Fetch and Ibotta, since they reward different things. Just read each app's terms, scan within the time window, and don't try to scan someone else's receipts. That's the fastest way to get banned.

Realistic earnings

For a typical household, receipt apps add up to a few dollars a month each, more if you chase Ibotta's product offers. Upside can beat that if you drive a lot. Think "free coffee every month," not "rent money."
