Apps that pay you to play games (and walk)
Some links below are referral links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a bonus at no cost to you. How we make money
You're already playing games on your phone and walking around with it in your pocket. These apps turn some of that into gift cards. The pay is small, but so is the effort.
Mistplay: points for trying new games
Mistplay recommends new mobile games and pays you points for time played and levels reached. Points go toward gift cards. It started on Android and now has an iPhone app too. You don't need to spend money in any game to earn.
Sweatcoin: steps into coins
Sweatcoin counts your steps and turns them into coins you can spend on perks, discounts, and some gift cards. Keep your phone on you and it works in the background. It's more "free perks" than real cash, but it costs nothing.
Microsoft Rewards: a few minutes a day
Search with Bing and complete a short daily set of quizzes and polls to earn points, which turn into gift cards. It's a few minutes a day, and the points add up over a month. If you game on Xbox, there are extra ways to earn there.
Game offers on get-paid-to sites
Sites like Gain.gg pay for reaching specific milestones in specific games, like "reach level 30 within 14 days." These pay more than Mistplay, but only if you hit the goal in time. Read the requirements and take screenshots as you go. See our get-paid-to guide for tips that help offers credit.
Watch out for
- In-app purchases. Earning should never require spending. If a game offer pushes you to buy things, do the math first.
- Battery and data. Step trackers and games use both. Play on Wi-Fi where you can.
- Time. If you wouldn't play the game anyway, the hourly rate is usually low. These work best as rewards for what you already do.
